Gay Stag Do Ideas

So, you’ve been tasked with planning a stag weekend and you now don’t know where to start?  You want to make the weekend extra special for your friend but trying to find the right things can be hard.  You don’t know all the on the weekend but you know the things the stag would like.  You’re not sure how much people want to pay.  Finding a location that everyone can get to isn’t easy.  Where do you start??

Planning a Gay Stag Weekend

Planning a gay stag weekend is no different to planning any other type of weekend except the group might want some slightly different activities and venues included. We’ve outlined below the process we suggest when starting the planning process.

A really good starting point is getting a list of names of who’s going to be invited and contacting them all.  It might be a mixed sex group or just guys the stag wants to come on the weekend.  For us it doesn’t matter but some venues like to know. Speak to the stag and ask roughly what he wants to do, when he wants to go and how much he thinks his friends are willing to pay.  Thankfully stag do’s have moved on over the past 10 years and they are more about celebrating friendship, and giving your friend a good send off rather than cling-filming him to a lamppost.  Once you’ve spoken to the stag you might want to translate what he wants into a special weekend and come up with some of your own ideas.

The next step is contacting the group.  If you’ve manged to have a look at packages and prices and refined ideas then you can let them know what the rough plan is.  It’s really important you let them know the date, location and rough cost for the weekend.  This might rule out some of the list but getting an idea on numbers for the weekend is vital.  Some activities will require a minimum number so if you think your numbers are going to drop it’s better to know early. We normally suggest getting a small deposit from everyone to show commitment.  You can collect this via our online payment system.

There are three key areas to consider when it comes to planning the content of the weekend.  They are the accommodation, daytime activities and evening entertainment.

Hotel Options Gay Stag Weekends

At the Great British Stag and at our sister company Orchid City & Spa, we speicalse in ‘nicer’ hotels for groups.  We don’t use B&B’s and basic hotels.  We speicalise in 4* and 5* hotels, some with spas, but all great for a group weekend with friends.  We think it’s really important that you have a nice hotel in a good location for the nightlife.  Sometimes price might dictate exactly what your group can afford but we’ll be able to help try and find you the right hotel.

Daytime Activity For Gay Stag Parties

From our experience there are three different types of stag groups.  The first is the sort who like to fill their days with activities.  The types of activities vary.  Some groups like the multi-activity days with things like clay pigeon shooting and off road buggies.  The Pineapple Dance Studio is a popular location for dance lessons in London.  Life drawing classes have been massively popular this year.  What every the activities you’re keen on we can normally arrange them if you don’t find them on this site.

The next sort of group we find are the one’s looking for more relaxing activities.  It might be as simple as using the spa in the hotel or having lunch somewhere.  Wine Tastings or Whisky Master Classes in Balls Brothers is popular too.

The final type is the group who are all about the drinking and nightlife.  Meals in private dining rooms with a butler in the buff at the Malmaison in Cheltenham is a great option. The ever popular cocktail class is always a winner too.

Evening Ideas for a Gay Stag

The evening is the main element people get stuck on when it comes to planning.  Private dining has become really popular in recent years.  It’s great if people want to make speeches and it’s really nice to have your own space.  If you want to atmosphere of a restaurant then we’ll supply you with suggestions.  We’ll also supply you with details for the best gay bar and clubs in a city.
